What does it take to be really good at business transcription?
Since we’re coming close to another extremely busy season of business transcription, maybe this post would serve as a good reference for new transcribers to prepare for the third quarter season beginning in October, and also for clients to know how much effort really goes into finishing the transcripts in time.
Business transcription is one of the, if not the most, important services offered by any transcription service online. The audio files are usually earnings results disclosures by large multinationals like banks, oil and gas – petroleum companies, retail supermarket chains, automobile manufacturers, software giants and video game studios etc.
These files usually have extremely tight deadlines, and that sometimes means that they need to be transcribed within 4 or even 3 hours. This requires from the transcriber to have extremely fast typing speed and a good ear, and pretty much know all business terms and jargons, because you just can’t afford to waste time going back and forth searching for some simple terms. Time management is another key thing required in business transcription, which means your one eye should always be on the clock, because if the transcript is not returned on time, there could be penalties.
Hopefully this post was an eye opener many new transcribers just getting started in the field of audio transcription, and also a reference point for clients to learn how much effort really goes into transcribing a conference call.
