Audio Transcription Techniques – Part 2

Part 2 – Fingers Training

Carrying on from our last post on audio transcription techniques, this time we give you important tips to train your fingers to type fast and accurately, so that you can finish transcription assignments in time and with high accuracy.  You can have a good ear, and listen to everything in an audio interview, but if you have no speed in your hands, then converting voice to text can become a long, arduous, tedious process.  That’s why transcribers use foot pedals, so that they don’t have to worry about playing or pausing, and their fingers are free to just type away at lightning speed.

To build speed into your typing, first you need to learn to type with all 10 fingers, otherwise it can get a whole lot tricky.  To do this, just type “Typing Tutor” into any one of the number of search engines, and after some trial and error, you should be able to get a free software that will teach you how to type proper and fast.  It’s important to learn the QWERTY layout, and train your fingers to type accordingly, without looking at the keyboard, so that you don’t miss a beat.  Training your ears and fingers is the first step to become an expert transcriber.

    Dear ScriptoSphere. 2011-09-05
I happened to open your page this afternoon and was impressed with the professional
advert and info given. I know this is not the authorized route to follow, but was wondering how one could become a freelance transcriber from home and if your company would be interested in such a person. I am a white, retired female, 66 years of age and have been transcribing for years. Currently I do audio transcriptions for Pretoria High Courts. When I was 18 I started work as a stenographer in Court, progressing later to machine recordings, and later still, typing from home. I worked for attorneys for 25 years as a dictaphone typist.
Where are your offices, and would home typing be a possibility? I live in Pretoria, South Africa. I look forward to hearing from you.
    Yours faithfully
    Vicky Lowe
